Second Day - Capacity Building for New and Existing Campaigns

Dear Friends in Peace,

We continue the report from the Third Global Summit for Ministries and
Departments of Peace with a brief description of the second working day
which was dedicated to offer a series of trainings and workshops for the
delegate`s capacity building in view of strengthening their initiatives.

The topics were chosen as the most relevant ones after a previous month
long process of assessment of needs through the sharing and analysing of a
questionnaire circulated to former participants to the Summits.

Miki Kashtan, facilitator of the Summit, started the day with the
coordination of the descriptions, times, attendance and of the sessions.
She invited each trainer to briefly present their topics.

>From TRANSCEND Japan, Mr. Akifumi Fujita, summarized a full-day training
on Peaceful Conflict Transformation - the TRANSCEND Method: The World I
would like to live in. He and co-trainers, Ms. Muroi Michiko and Mr. K.
Nakano, joined trainings with Manish Thapa, Nepal.

Miki Kashtan, trainer of Nonviolent Communication, also dedicated a full
day on presenting the method and in the afternoon, the attendants had the
opportunity to witness a live mediation on a real conflict with the
permission of the two parties involved.

Saul Arbess and Penny Joy, Canada, offered a morning workshop entitled
Nature and Functioning of a Ministry or Department of Peace. The workshop
focused on creating the picture of a Ministry after a full-year
functioning from the point of view of a Minister.

Also in the morning, Prof. Suman Aggarwal, India, presented on the
Political Legitimisation of Peace - A Gandhian Perspective.

Dot Maver and Mike Abkin, U.S.A., scheduled in the afternoon with a
workshop on Campaign organising and strategy for networking, advocacy,
lobbying and working with the media from the experience of the Peace
Alliance grassroots campaign for a U.S.A. Department of Peace.

And finally, Youth! cried out Aaron Voldman and Julia Simon-Mishel as they
gathered people interested in working with youth in their own countries
and shared strategies and approaches.

The day was concluded with a discussion on the personal outcomes for some
of the participants.

Until the end of the day, the Pakistan representative and a Taiwan
representative joined us.

The third working day will focus on organising the Global Alliance for
Ministries and Departments of Peace for the future.
